Growing Guide
Wheat Cultivation with Organic Inputs
Wheat (Triticum aestivum) is the primary cereal crop in India's rabi season. Organic wheat cultivation not only produces premium quality grain but also commands a significant price premium in export markets.
Climate & Soil Requirements
Wheat grows best in cool, dry climates with temperatures between 10–25°C. Well-drained loamy soils with a pH of 6.0–7.5 are ideal. Avoid waterlogged conditions which promote root rot diseases.
Seed Rate & Sowing
Sow at a seed rate of 100–125 kg/ha using a seed-cum-fertilizer drill for uniform placement. Treat seeds with Trichoderma viride (4 g/kg) and Azotobacter (25 g/kg) for improved germination and root development.
Organic Nutrition Strategy
The three-pillar approach for organic wheat nutrition:
- Soil building: 5 tonnes FYM or 2 tonnes vermicompost per hectare pre-sowing
- Bio-stimulants: Humic acid (3 kg/ha) at sowing improves root architecture
- Foliar nutrition: Seaweed extract + amino acids at tillering, jointing, and grain filling
Pest & Disease Management
Spray Pseudomonas fluorescens at 2.5 kg/ha in 500 L water at 30 and 60 DAS to control foliar diseases including yellow rust and powdery mildew organically.

Fertilizer Schedule
Organic Fertilizer Schedule for Wheat
| Stage | Days After Sowing | Recommended Input | Quantity/Hectare |
|---|---|---|---|
| Pre-sowing | 0 | Vermicompost + Rock Phosphate + Neem Cake | 2000 kg + 75 kg + 100 kg |
| Crown Root | 21–25 | Liquid Bio-NPK (N:P:K 19:19:19 organic) | 5 L (1:200 dilution) |
| Tillering | 35–40 | Humic Acid + Seaweed Extract foliar | 3 L + 2 L |
| Jointing | 55–60 | Potassium Silicate foliar | 3 L |
| Grain Filling | 85–90 | Amino Acid Liquid | 2 L |
Critical Note: Irrigation at crown root initiation (CRI) stage is the single most yield-determining factor for wheat. Never skip the first irrigation.
